An East Providence, Rhode Island man, dubbed “The Teardrop Bandit” by police, plead guilty on Oct. 4 to robbing three banks in 2015, including one Wareham bank.

Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Robert Chadronet, 38, plead guilty in Hartford federal court to one count of bank robbery and admitted that he committed two bank robberies in Connecticut and one in Massachusetts.

According to statements made in court, Chadronet used force and intimidation to rob approximately $697 from a branch of Citizen’s Bank located at 2991 Cranberry Highway in Wareham on Sept. 9, 2015.

During the reported robbery at the Wareham bank, police said an unmasked man handed the bank teller a note that told her the bank was being robbed and that he had a weapon.

Chadronet also plead guilty to taking $1,000 from a branch of TD Bank located at 1003 West Main Street in Branford, Connecticut on July 27, 2015 and approximately $2,329 from a branch of Citizens Bank located at 1187 Boston Post Road in Westbrook, Connecticut on Aug. 27, 2015.

Chadronet is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant on Dec. 28 at which time he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.

Chadronet has been detained since Sept. 10, 2015, when he was arrested on state charges related to a bank robbery that occurred in Milford on Aug. 18, 2015.  State charges against Chadronet for that robbery are pending.

Chadronet has been imprisoned for other robberies in the past.

According to past reports, in 2005 he was linked to a TD Banknorth branch robbery in Foxboro and again in 2008 at a Citizens Bank branch in a Stop & Shop in Mansfield. He was sentenced to four years in prison for the Foxboro heist and another three for the Mansfield robbery.

For the Foxboro and Mansfield robberies, Chadronet disguised himself with a fake teardrop tattoo on his face and was subsequently dubbed the Teardrop Bandit, said Milford Police.

At the time of his criminal conduct, Chadronet was on federal supervised release or a prior bank robbery conviction. He faces supervised release violation proceedings in the District of Rhode Island.

This matter has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Connecticut State Police, Branford Police Department, Milford Police Department and Wareham Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
