Andrew 'Snooky' Lopes Jr., 80
Andrew “Snooky” William Lopes Jr., of Middleboro passed away Jan. 22 at Nemasket Health Care Center surrounded by his family.
Andrew was born on June 10, 1936 to Flora and Andrew W. Lopes, Sr. He attended Carver/Plymouth schools and then enlisted into the Air Force. After his military service, he was employed as a welder and pipefitter at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and then at the Pilgrim Nuclear Station in Plymouth for more than 30 years until his retirement.
Andrew was an avid sports fan and was a great ball player in his time. He enjoyed watching all his family play sports and loved his family above all. A special thank you to all the healthcare facilities that have cared for Andrew over the past two years, especially the nurses at Tobey Hospital and Nemasket Health Care Center.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores “Sugar” M. Lopes of Middleboro; his three daughters, Hollie Lopes of Clinton, Maryland, Anjanette Lopes of Stafford, Virginia, and Heather Callaham and her husband James of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.
Also surviving are his five grandchildren: Emarii Lopes, Drew Holton-Lopes, Cameron Callaham, Jasmyn Callaham and Khoury Madison Lopes; his siblings, Sandra Silva, Edwin “Dede” Lopes and Daphne Simon all of Carver, Linda Fernandes of Plymouth, Lulu Silva of N. Hampton and Paul “Sonny” Lopes of Springfield, Illinois; several nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, the late Andrew W. Lopes Sr., and Flora Lopes, his sister, the late Janice Porter and his brother, the late Donald Lopes.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, Jan. 27 at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, (Route 28), Wareham from 5 to 8 p.m. His funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Sacred Heart Church, 340 Center St., Middleboro at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Plymouth County Cemetery, South Meadow Road, Plymouth.
