Fallen tree damages power line, closes part of Tihonet Road
Part of Tihonet Road was closed after a tree fell in the middle of the road, taking out power lines.
The accident was reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. Eversource officials were called to the scene, where Tihonet Road meets Cranberry Highway.
It appears high winds were to blame for the accident. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for most of Massachusetts early Thursday.
A high wind warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 miles per hour are expected for at least one hour, with gusts of 58 mph or greater possible. The National Weather Service cautions that damage to trees, power lines and property is possible.
Wareham Police redirected traffic at the scene as tree cleanup crews and Eversource officials arrived to take care of the debris. According to the power company, 38 Wareham customers were without electricity as of 1:30 p.m.
