A one-night-only reunion show brought Sound Tower back on stage on March 18, which raised $8,000 for those recovering from opioid addiction.

“I’m overwhelmed and quite frankly humbled by the support,” said Melodye Conway, founder of the Brent Hastings Memorial Fund, which benefited from the concert. “We’re going to save some lives.”

Proceeds will go to “Brent’s Bed,” a partnership between substance abuse facility Gosnold on Cape Cod and The Herren Project. The latter provides assistance to those taking the first steps toward recovery.

Conway founded the memorial fund after her son, the fund’s namesake and a Wareham resident, passed away from a heroin overdose in 2014. It supports substance use disorder education, awareness and recovery programs. To date, the fund has raised almost $50,000.

Brent’s Bed will assist young men financially as they transition from Miller House, a detox facility, to a recovery residence.

According to Conway, recovery is often a difficult time from a financial perspective as all recovery residences are private pay. For many, a recovery residence is the next step in the continuum of care and an important phase in the road to a lasting recovery, said Conway.

Saturday’s sold out show brought 300 people to the Wareham-New Bedford Elks Club. Conway said Sound Tower coming together after disbanding nearly three years ago was a big part of the night’s success.

“I am so grateful to Sound Tower. They got themselves out of hibernation, took time out of their busy lives, and supported us,” said Conway.

Fundraising will continue as Conway and others prepare for the fourth annual Brent Hastings Memorial Golf Tournament set for Sept. 16 at the Bay Pointe Country Club.
