Sonic Drive-In planned for Cranberry Highway

Apr 7, 2017

A Taunton-based developer wants to bring a fast food throwback to the corner of Main Avenue and Cranberry Highway.

Documents filed with the Wareham Planning Department reveal plans to construct a Sonic Drive-In at that location. The company is known for its retro feel where carhops deliver burgers, shakes and hot dogs. The Oklahoma-based chain, which is popular in the South, has been adding stores across the country as part of a nationwide expansion.

Plans for the Wareham store call for demolishing an existing business located at 3067 Cranberry Highway, Pro-Team Quick Oil Change. In its place, a 2,478 square-foot Sonic Drive-In with between 24 to 36 covered parking spots will be built.

Planning Department documents list Sunil B. Patel of Taunton as the applicant. According to state business records, Patel owns or has owned a string of convenience stores in the Taunton area. The owner of the land at 3067 Cranberry Highway is listed as CTG Properties LLC.

Before construction begins Patel must receive approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board. The Zoning Board of Appeals hearing is scheduled for April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Service Center.
