200-mile relay race winds through Wareham
Runners participating in a 200-mile, overnight relay race from Hull to Provincetown hit Wareham streets on Friday.
The event, known as Reebok Ragnar Cape Cod, features teams of 12 people who run for anywhere between 15 to 33 miles at a stretch. Each group is supported by two vans, which are driven by team members. The event is nonstop as teams race day and night, swapping out runners at different checkpoints.
In Wareham, the route took runners down High Street, across the Narrows to Minot Avenue and through downtown Onset before they hit Bourne.
St. Patrick's Church on High Street served as one of the checkpoints. Teams cheered on as runners arrived and tagged in others to complete the next leg of the race.
Josh Feingold and other members of the Plymouth North High School track team volunteered at the checkpoint, directing runners to St. Patrick's. He said it was his first time participating in a Ragnar event.
"This is just a great race," he said. "And we have a beautiful day for it."
