Town Administrator praises high profile police arrests
Town Administrator Derek Sullivan on Tuesday highlighted the work of the Wareham Police Department’s detective division by congratulating officers for three arrests.
Sullivan noted that more funds had been diverted into the division recently.
On May 11, two Wareham residents were arrested and charged with dealing heroin. Police seized $30,000 worth of heroin that had been prepared for sale, $19,000 in cash and a car. Sullivan said that bust was possible thanks to a months-long investigation.
Hours before the Selectmen’s Tuesday meeting, Sullivan said an officer with the detective division tracked down a car stolen out of Boston. The officer used the car’s LoJack tracking system to find the car and driver.
Sullivan congratulated the officer, noting that $2,000 worth of “crack cocaine destined for the streets of Wareham” was allegedly found inside the car.
Selectman Alan Slavin echoed Sullivan's sentiment. Slavin said officers have stepped up patrols and encouraged residents who witness suspicious activity to report it.
"If you have an issue, call the police," said Slavin. "They are really working hard on this."
