American Legion Baseball teams start season strong

Jun 15, 2017

In the first game in program history, the Wareham Post 220 Jr. Legion Baseball team opened up its summer season with a 7-1 win against Barnstable Post 206. Eric Zine (Wareham) pitched six strong innings, giving up only one earned run and collected four strike outs along the way. Post 220 had a big fourth inning at the plate by scoring six runs.

In a 12-4 win against Orleans Post 308, Matt Pearle (Wareham) pitched five strong innings, allowing only four runs, while Post 220’s bats were on fire. Everyone in the order had at least one hit. Pearle had four hits of his own. Bryan Gallagher (Wareham), AJ Lecuyer (Old Colony), Michael Barry (Old Rochester), Chris Labelle (Old Rochester), and Colin Horton (Wareham) all had a more than one hit in the game.

Facing the 2016 defending Jr. Legion District 10 champs Whitman Post 22, an outstanding pitching performance by Nate Kvilhaug (Old Rochester) propelled Post 220 to a 4-0 victory. Kvilhaug scattered only three hits over 6 and one third innings of work. While facing Whitman’s ace, Post 220 had to rely on a perfectly executed first and third play to manufacture a run, before a deep blast to center by Matt Pearle (Wareham) ignited a two run fifth inning that sealed the victory. Colin Horton (Wareham) and Bryson Uhlman (Sturgis East) had the other hits on the day.
