Women rescued from Wareham River by passing stranger
Jun 21, 2017
Two women were yelling for help in the Wareham River Wednesday evening after they believed their inflatable rubber raft had run out of fuel.
According to emergency broadcasts, the boat was out of fuel and was being dragged by the current.
Before the Wareham Fire Department could reach the raft, the women were discovered by George Mather, who was passing by in his boat Viking.
"I'm no hero," Mather said. "I heard someone calling for help so I went out to get them."
Wareham Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly after. The women got to shore with their raft, where the fire department discovered it did have fuel, but was airlocked. After the raft began functioning again, the women took a selfie with Mather before sailing away again.
