Girl Scouts learn about vernal pool, insects

Apr 12, 2011

Girl Scouts in Brownie Troop 80181 explored a Wareham vernal pool with environmentalist Mack Phinney last week and learned how water is important to the life cycle of local animals.

The girls explored the pool - a temporary pool of water formed in the spring season - and found fairy shrimp, mosquito larva, diving beetles, frog egg masses, dragonfly larva, and caddisflies. They also listened to the sounds of the spring peeper frogs.

The Brownies were working on their "W.O.W. Wonders of Water Journey," a part of the "It's your planet, love it" badge.
