14th annual Cranberry Harvest Celebration set for Oct. 7, 8

Oct 2, 2017

The 14th annual Cranberry Harvest Celebration will be held on Oct. 7 and 8 at the A.D. Makepeace Co.

The celebration will feature food, live music, juried crafters, paddleboat rides, children’s activities, live cooking demonstrations, wagon rides, helicopter rides and more. Refreshments will be available.

Attendees can take a complimentary bus for a ride to a stretch of cranberry bogs where growers will explain the harvest process. From one vantage point, all phases of the harvest are visible: picking, corralling the berries in the flooded bogs, and vacuuming the berries into trucks for transport.

This year, for a fee, attendees may borrow a pair of waders and get in a flooded bog, to recreate their own version of Justin and Henry from the Ocean Spray commercials.

Admission is $10, $5 for children, seniors, and military. Children under 7 are admitted free. Parking and most activities are also free. The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The Cranberry Harvest Celebration is held at 158 Tihonet Road in Wareham. For details, driving directions, and more, visit www.cranberryharvest.org or follow the event on the Cranberry Harvest Celebration Facebook page.

The festival is co-sponsored by the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers’ Association and Ocean Spray Cranberries.
