Citation issued after 2-car crash on Route 6 in Wareham

Two people were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries and two children, ages 14 and 3, were transported to Boston for evaluation following a two-car crash on Route 6 on Dec. 26.

According to Wareham Police, the accident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. when a 55-year-old Mattapoisett woman attempted to turn onto Hathaway Street near the Gateway Tavern. Police said she struck a car heading west on Route 6 driven by a 32-year-old Wareham woman with the young passengers.

Both drivers were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, and are in stable condition at this time. The children were taken to Boston Children’s Hospital to be checked for injuries and were released on Dec. 27.

Police said Maribeth Eilertsen of Mattapoisett was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield the right of way to the westbound vehicle.
