Lawrence M. Gaines, 83, of Wareham died Jan. 19 at home. He was the husband of the late Carole (Sanella) Gaines and the son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Fowler) Quadagno.

He was born in Harrison, New York and lived in New Jersey, Michigan, and Charlotte North Carolina before moving to Wareham. He graduated from New York University.

Mr. Gaines served in the United States Army departing with an honorable discharge in 1956. He was stationed in Alaska during most of his enlistment.

Mr. Gaines worked as a buyer in New York and New Jersey before a career as a sales representative for Puritan Sportswear in New England. He also worked for London Fog, Ratner Men’s Wear and various other men’s dress lines before retiring.

He was an active and recognized volunteer at the Wareham Council on Aging and the Meals On Wheels program. He was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Buzzards Bay.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan M. Gaines of Rockland; a son, Michael Gaines of Mission Viejo, California; two stepsons, Michael Booth of San Francisco, California, and Peter Booth of Germany; five grandchildren including Tyler Gaines.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham.
