Wareham Middle School students' drive nets 507 pairs of socks for those in need

Feb 1, 2018

Two Wareham Middle School eighth graders recently ended a sock drive to benefit the homeless by delivering 507 new pairs of socks to Pastor Lynn Shaw of the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene.

The drive, launched by Chloe Hogan and Olivia Powers, was a community service project for the pair’s humanities/social responsibility class. Sock donation baskets were placed in Wareham Middle School and Wareham High School, as well as Abbey Glass Company, Inc.

Both said the community, including students, teachers, and school principals, joined in and helped make the drive a success.

The students said many people came together for this cause in different ways, including one man who recorded himself making donations at Abbey Glass and then challenged others to do as well. One student hosted a birthday party and encouraged all of her friends to bring socks to her party.

Chloe and Olivia extended thanks to all who helped with the drive.
