On Thursday, Middleboro High School senior Macee Doyle was awarded the $5,000 Lindsey’s Family Restaurant/Shon Shadrick Memorial Scholarship.

The 4th annual scholarship was presented to Doyle by restaurant owner Cheri Lindsey. Lindsey started this scholarship in honor of her late nephew, Shon Shadrick, who was born with Down syndrome and passed away in 2005 after a four-year battle with leukemia.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a student planning on majoring in special education. Doyle plans on attending Bridgewater University in the fall.

The organization said Doyle stood out among the 250 applicants because of her love for children and her approach to helping children with special needs. Middleboro Assistant Principal Paul Branagan described Doyle as “the queen of school spirit."

Lindsey said the restaurant was honored to help Doyle on her path to help others and knows she will excel in the career she has chosen.
