A powerful storm is creating hazardous road conditions throughout town and officials are imploring residents to stay home.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said emergency crews are dealing with numerous calls related to downed limbs and electrical wires. He urged residents to stay home for their own safety and the safety of first responders.

”Drivers are putting themselves, their families and first responders at risk by being on the roads,” said Sullivan. “It’s not safe out there.”

Sullivan noted that crews are working to clear limbs and electrical wires from highways and side streets all over Wareham at this time. He said crews need space to safely work as widespead power outages and driving rain reduce visibility.

Earlier in the evening, a firefighter was struck by a car and then taken to Rhode Island Hospital while responding to a call in East Wareham. The firefighter’s condition is unknown at this time.
