A boat storage facility in East Wareham may collapse after winds from a powerful nor'easter caused severe damage to the building Friday night.

The Continental Marina's facility, located at 3236 Cranberry Highway, had most of its sheet metal siding blown off in the storm. A 25-year-old Onset firefighter was on the scene helping to close the road due to flying debris at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday. He was struck during a hit-and-run and remains in critical condition. Police are actively investigating the incident.

On Saturday, the Wareham Building Inspector called for Cranberry Highway from Jefferson Shores to the Bourne town line closed for much of the day as a precaution. It has since been reopened.

Currently, the facility is filled with powerboats, stacked one on top of each other in storage for winter.

Onset Fire Chief Ray Goodwin said the building's frame was warped 2 to 3 feet due to the damage.

"It's an extremely dangerous situation," said Goodwin.
