America's not ready for Teddy, yet: Wareham's 'American Idol' not featured on show's first episode

Mar 12, 2018

Wareham soul singer Teddy Mathews wasn't featured on the "American Idol" premiere on March 11, but his fans can continue to hope he'll appear in a future episode.

Mathews, 21, was sent to Los Angeles for taping in January. A send-off party was held for Mathews in Onset where he performed for well-wishers.

At the party, Mathews told Wareham Week he was touched by the support from the community. He has to keep quiet about a lot of the details, but many people saw him in an "American Idol" ad during the American Music Awards and got excited for him.

"There was a huge push from the community to have a send-off and it's so appreciated," Mathews said at the time.

"American Idol" premiered on March 11 on ABC, with judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Auditions continue to be aired March 12, 18, 19 and 25, so hometown fans can continue to hope to see Mathews during an audition episode soon.
