First Wareham Middle School pep rally supplies energy, school spirit
"It's wonderful to see the entire Wareham Middle School in this auditorium!" Wareham Middle School Principal Peter Steedman shouted to an excited crowd on Friday. "Let's make some noise!"
The noise from the students was deafening, and the first Wareham Middle School pep rally in many years began.
Wendy Brogioli, a teacher at the middle school, helped put the pep rally together.
"The students aren't familiar with the whole idea," Brogioli said, since the middle school typically doesn't hold pep rallies. But with MCAS coming up and winter seeming to stick around, Brogioli said it was a perfect time for students to get some energy out.
Middle school student and vice president of student council Indiana Troupe had the idea for the pep rally after attending several at Wareham High School.
"We're trying to boost the atmosphere here since school's a little down right now," Indiana said, referring to the recent winter storms and widespread power outages in town.
The pep rally included a lip sync battle, spirit yell-offs, a cup stacking game and a Jell-O eating competition. Students could compete to win points for their grade. The fifth grade won the most points and will be awarded with an ice cream party.
