Wareham Legion Post baseball begins
The Wareham Legion Post #220 Baseball Club opened the 2011 season with a home loss to Dennis.
Ian Searles (Wareham) pitched well enough to win, allowing only two earned runs on six hits and finished with three strikeouts over four innings of work.
Davarn Nova also pitched well in his first relief appearance of the summer. Sean Griffith (Bourne) collected his first American Legion hit, a double, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Billy Peterson (Wareham) also went 1-for-3 with one RBI on the night.
The boys lost with a score of 5-3, however.
In their second game the boys hit the road to play Hingham, garnering a 14-7 win.
Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) got his first American Legion hit and went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Also collecting their first American Legion hits were Tyler Horton (Wareham) and Zach Angelo (Tabor). Horton had two doubles and scored twice, while Angelo had two singles to go along with two runs scored.
Sean Conway (Wareham) had the big blast of the game, connecting on a fourth inning grand slam and finished with six RBIs on the day.
Billy Peterson (Wareham) and Ian Searles (Wareham) each went 2-for-4, while Sean Griffith (Bourne) and Nick Gray (Old Rochester) each collected a hit with one run scored.
Michael Sullivan (Wareham/Massasoit Community College) earned the win, allowing 7 runs and collecting 5 strikeouts in a complete game grinder. Offensively, Sullivan went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored.
Post #220 kept it going with a 5-3 win against Kingston.
Sean Conway (Wareham) pitched, allowing just three runs, scattering seven hits, and collected five strikeouts along the way.
Shea Doonan (Tabor) finished the day going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored, while catcher Zach Angelo (Tabor) enjoyed a 1-for-2 day and collected a sacrifice fly RBI.
