West Wareham postal worker accused of stealing $200 gift card from mail

A West Wareham U.S. Postal carrier is facing charges for allegedly stealing a $200 gift card during her route and using it to make purchases in North Dartmouth.

Nicole Briggs-Thompson, 42, of Wareham has been charged with two counts of larceny under $250 following an investigation by Wareham Police and U.S. Postal Service special agents Andrew Dawson and Mark Aldoupolis.

Wareham Police said they received a report of a stolen gift card in January. After an investigation, police said they found the card was used in North Dartmouth. Further investigation by Detective Kevin Reilly led police to Briggs-Thompson, a rural carrier working at the West Wareham post office.

Special agents Dawson and Aldoupolis were notified and began their own investigation. As a result of a sting, authorities said Briggs-Thompson was caught stealing a second time. Both crimes allegedly occurred while she was working as a postal carrier, authorities said.

Wareham Police said the case was successfully concluded because of the cooperative effort between the department and the United States Postal Service. Police noted the charges were filed in February when Briggs-Thompson was summoned to court.
