Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby casts off on June 3

The Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club will host its annual Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 3. Check-in begins at 4 a.m. and is continuous throughout the day.

Fishing takes place from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. followed by an award presentation at 2 p.m. The derby falls on the Massachusetts Free Fishing Weekend and fishing licenses are not required.

Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories for adults and juniors. Enter the raffle for a chance to win a 10’ Tracker Jon Boat with a trolling motor ($900-plus value), an Old Town 111 Kayak with Scotty Rod Holder ($700-plus value) and GoPro camera.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club Associates, the club’s youth group.

Anglers can fish from shore, or bring their boat, canoe, or kayak.

Nemasket Kayak Center in Tihonet Village will offer reduced rates for rentals for the derby. Life preservers are required for anyone who would like to put a boat in for the event. No combustion engines are allowed on Tihonet Pond.

The fee is $12 for adults and $3 for children age 14 and younger.
