The girls tennis team saw yet another victory on Thursday, defeating Carver for the second time this season with a score of 5-0. The team is now just one win away from a state tournament bid.

Coach Geoff Swett says the girls will square up next against Dighton-Rehoboth on May 30. The game starts at 3:45 p.m. at Wareham High School.

Swett speculates that if the girls win, this will be the first time in 20 years that the Lady Vikings have made it to the state tournament.

"I've been coaching for fourteen years," Swett said after Thursday's game with Carver. "And in all those years, we haven't made it."

Wareham previously lost this season to Dighton-Rehoboth 3-2, but Swett says he's feeling good about his team's odds.

"D-R is a solid opponent," Swett said. "But we're a much better team now than when we last played them."

Members of the girls team say they are feeling equally optimistic about their chances of making it to state.

"I think we have what it takes," said Natalia Moulding. "So I'm really not that nervous."

The team's overall record for the season is now 9-9. Their South Coast Conference record is 3-9.
