Joan Gonsalves, 75

Joan L. (Cummings) Gonsalves, 75, of Wareham, died June 7 at home. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Priscilla (Gordon) Cummings.

She was born in Weymouth and lived in Wellfleet and later in upstate New York and Daytona Beach before moving to Wareham 13 years ago. She graduated from Cape Cod Community College.

Mrs. Gonsalves had worked as a police officer for the Town of Wellfleet. She also was a corrections officer in New York and owned The Townhouse restaurant in Auburn, New York. She was a child advocacy specialist, bookkeeper, and a certified nurse’s assistant.

She authored a children’s book titled Homer’s Secret.

She enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, was an avid reader and a Red Sox fan.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherri S. Dillon of Onset; two sons, Michael H. Dillon of New Bedford and Albert Warren, IV of Grovetown, Georgia. Eight grandchildren, Hunter Gonsalves, Austin Parham, Thomas Warren, Quint Warren, Kylie Warren, Sarah Gada, Nicholas Miller, and Dennis Wilkinson. Mother of the late Maureen E. Dillon.
