Louis H. Mathews, 73, of Plymouth, died June 14 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Emma (Nunes) and Ernest Mathews. Mr. Mathews previously lived in California before returning to Plymouth. He was a self-employed cement mason.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Jeannette Santos of Plymouth; his sons, Louis Mathews, Jr., and John Mathews of Falmouth; his siblings, Pearl Barrows and Patricia Monteiro both of Wareham, and Ronald Mathews of Middleboro. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jaylen, Brendan, Louis III, Jordan, and Brittany; two step-grandchildren, Jade Santos, and Jason Tavares, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, the late Russell Mathews; and his brothers, the late Ernest “Junior” Mathews and Larry Mathews.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, June 20, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham from 3 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, Main St., Buzzards Bay Thursday, June 21 at 10 a.m. Please go directly to church and arrive by 9:45 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
