A 23-year-old woman who police said drove her car into the ocean has been charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.

Police said Lauren Heyward of Wareham went home after leaving her car in the water off Little Harbor Beach on Friday, June 22. The car was unoccupied and approximately 50 feet off shore when officers arrived. Officer Christopher Corner walked out to the vehicle to make sure it was unoccupied.

The car was removed from the beach and no signs of hazardous materials were present.

Wareham Police, Wareham Fire and the Wareham Department of Natural Resources all responded to the scene.
