Onset Blues Festival to return with Grammy-nominated headliner

Jul 23, 2018

The 26th Annual Onset Blues Festival will boast a robust musical lineup when it returns on Saturday, Aug. 4, complete with Grammy-nominated headliner Janiva Magness.

Magness' album "Love Wins Again" was nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album back in 2017, making her the first and only female artist to ever be nominated in the category.

Magness will be joined at the Onset Bandshell by groups such as The Fat City Band, Aaron Norcross Jr., Jan Marie & the Mean Reds and The George Gritzbach Band.

"It's a solid line-up," said Onset Bay Association President Kat Jones.

The Blues Festival will also feature a wide variety of vendors, including Cape Cod Beer. The local brewer has sponsored the event for the past two years, selling beer at the show and donating a portion of proceeds to the Onset Bay Association.

According to Jones, the Blues Festival sold around 600 tickets last year.

"Its one of the largest events we do," Jones said.

She also pointed out that the Onset Blues Festival is the longest running one of its kind on the Cape.

"Blues is a genre that ebbs and flows," Jones said. "But it's definitely got some hardcore fans."

The event will run all day Saturday, Aug. 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Pre-sale tickets are $25 each and kids pay half price. Tickets are reduced to $20 for Onset Bay Association members who also get to enjoy a discount on festival merchandise.
