Wareham Police announce 2 promotions, 2 full-time hires

Wareham Police announced that two department members have received promotions and two special officers have been hired as full-time officers.

Sgt. Walter Correia has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and he will command the administrative division of the police department. Correia is a longtime member of the department who was hired in 1994. He has served as a patrol officer and detective, before being promoted to sergeant in 2010.

“Lt. Correia is highly respected by not only the members of this police department, but by the public as well. From the very start of his career he has always gone above and beyond, proving to be a very dedicated police officer,” said Acting Chief John Walcek said. “This is a well -deserved promotion.”

Patrol Officer Steven Soqui has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Soqui transferred from the Acushnet Police Department in 2015. He served as a patrol officer in Acushnet since 2006.

“Sgt. Soqui has proven to be an excellent addition to the Wareham Police Department and we look forward to his service as a patrol supervisor,” said Walcek.

Special Officer Kyle Gomes has been hired as a full-time officer. Gomes is a lifelong Wareham resident and 2014 graduate of Wareham High School. He has served as special officer since 2017, and is working toward a bachelor’s degree at Bridgewater State University.

Special Officer Justin Silveira has been hired as full-time police officer. Silveira is also a lifelong Wareham resident, graduating from Wareham High School in 2010. He has a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State University and served as a special officer since 2015.

“Both Kyle and Justin come from well- respected Wareham families, and we are very pleased to have them added to the roster of the Wareham Police Department,” said Walcek.
