Two suspects who allegedly ran from Wareham Police on Monday, Feb. 18 were arrested with help from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and K9 ‘Suni’, who reportedly found one of the wanted men hiding under a parked car.

According to police, Juvenile Detective Karl Baptiste saw a car drive through a red light on Cranberry Highway near Depot Street at around 10 p.m.

Baptiste attempted to stop the car, but the driver, Shainah Lopes, 36, of East Wareham, allegedly accelerated instead.

Baptiste followed the car as it made a U-turn by the Jack Conway office and drove to the Union Pond Apartments.

Once at the apartments, police said the car stopped abruptly and Lopes, along with his passenger, David Savaria, 35, of Mashpee, fled from the vehicle on foot.

Officer Eric Machado and Detective Dean Decas arrived on scene and helped to arrest one of the suspects. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was then contacted for a K-9 team.

According to reports, Deputy Sheriffs were in the area to assist within two minutes and Deputy Sheriff Alex Johnson and K-9 “Suni” were able to find the second suspect hiding underneath a parked car.

Lopes is charged with failure to stop for police, operating after suspension of driver’s license and fail to stop at a traffic signal.

Savaria was charged with disorderly conduct and had two active warrants for his arrest.
