Good-bye Wareham, hello WTAP

Sep 14, 2011

Wednesday was reporter Cyndi Murray’s last day with Wareham Week and WarehamVillageSoup.com.

Next week, she will be introducing herself to the people of Parkersburg, West Virginia, as the new producer and anchorwoman for WTAP, an NBC-affiliate TV station.

We’ll miss her, but wish her all the best.

A native of Long Island, Cyndi arrived in Wareham last January. Her education was in broadcast journalism,  but she was eager to jump into our world of print and online journalism.

During her short nine months here, she did a little of everything: A blizzard that wasn’t. A tropical storm that was. More stories about sewage issues than many reporters will see in their entire careers. Wind power. Solar power. Festivals in Onset. And a “live shot” for WCTV from the Swan Festival in Wareham Village.

Oh, yes, and the swans that stopped traffic on Main Street.

Along the way, Cyndi made her home in Onset, got a crash course in the town from Editor Jaime Rebhan, and – together with Jaime – put together our “In the Soup” show on WCTV. (Haven’t seen that yet? Reruns of the shows that include Cyndi will probably be on WCTV for at least a few weeks to come.)

If you’ve seen the show, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that Cyndi describes anchorwoman as her “dream job.” But still, she said, “It’s sad to leave Wareham. I learned so much here. And I felt from the time I got here that the community really welcomed me.”

We know our loss will be West Virginia’s gain.

Who’s next? Stay tuned. We’re in the midst of the search process for a great successor. When he or she arrives in town, we’re confident that all those people who helped Cyndi learn the ropes and feel comfortable in town will do the same for our next reporter.
