Sep 14, 2011

Explore Wareham's history through the letters of Silvanus Bourne with the Wareham Historical Society on September 19 at 7 p.m. in the Old Methodist Meeting House on Main Street.

The Wareham Historical Society's September McCarthy has transcribed a collection of 35 letters written by Silvanus, a Wareham resident, and sent to his brother Col. Alexander Bourne in Chillicothe, Ohio from 1832 to 1842.

The letters reveal much about Wareham's history and Silvanus' contributions to the town. They also reveal a man of great intelligence and wit who loved Wareham.

McCarthy will present highlights from her findings and further research on the Bourne family. For more information about the historical society, visit www.warehamhistoricalsociety.org.
