Students from the Wareham Cooperative School got to WORK on Wednesday, September 14.

Upperclassmen from the school met with WORK, Inc.'s Tracey Cunningham and Shirley Monty to discuss career paths and job placement.

WORK, Inc., located on Main Street, recently received a grant from the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board to help identify and discover the vocational interests of Wareham's 16- to 21-year-old out-of-school youth. Activities include vocational exploration, internships, volunteerism, and apprenticeships.

Juniors and seniors attending the Cooperative School earn credits while participating in the school's "School to Career" program, which requires that students be involved in community service or be employed. WORK, Inc. is working in conjunction with the Cooperative School’s liaison to individualize services for students.

"It's nice to go to a place where everybody, no matter your background, can get together and talk about careers and the future," said Cooperative School senior Stephane Roux.

Students are required to maintain a portfolio related to the work they are doing. Among the portfolio expectations for students are reflections on their work performance, work-related readings, résumé building, budget and financial literacy exercises, and career exploration.
