Wareham Police arrested a 45-year-old Onset man on Nov. 8 for possession of heroin with intent to distribute after a search of his apartment revealed eight grams of the drug.

The arrest came after officers struggled with the man, identified as James Owen of 29 Riverside Drive, when executing a search warrant at his second-floor apartment at about 8 p.m., according to police.

In addition to the drug, police found paraphernalia used in both the possession and sale of heroin, according to Wareham Police.

Owen was charged with possession of a Class A substance (heroin) and possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, police said. He was arraigned at the Wareham District Court on November 9 and held in lieu of $3,000 bail in Plymouth until his December 7 pretrial date, according to a court clerk.

Wareham Police detectives obtained the search warrant following an investigation into the sale of heroin in the Wareham area, according to police.

In praising the work of the detectives patrol officers involved in the search, Wareham Police Chief Richard Stanley said the police would continue to "aggressively combat the drug issues in Wareham and assure the citizens that drug dealers and users will not be tolerated."
