Updated: Police apprehend suspect after foot chase
State Police corralled a man wanted for four outstanding warrants after a foot chase that took officers through the Wareham Industrial Park on Wednesday, November 16.
According to State Police, officers began pursuing a motorist that had committed motor vehicle violations on Route 495 southbound in Middleborough when the suspect exited the highway at exit 2 - Route 58 in Wareham.
The suspect, later identified as Israel Casillas, made a U-turn in a parking lot off of Route 58 and continued back toward Route 495. He then drove in the wrong lane of Route 495 southbound, crossed the median strip to get into the correct lane, and after a short pursuit with speeds reaching up to 95 mph, abandoned the vehicle in the Wareham Industrial Park, police said.
A brief search and chase continued on-foot, with police apprehending Casillas around 1:20 p.m. Police said Casillas resisted arrest and he and a State Trooper sustained minor injuries. The trooper and Casillas were transported to Tobey Hospital.
Casillas left a woman and a 10-month-old infant in the abandoned vehicle, according to police. Neither was injured.
The nature of the outstanding warrants is unclear. Casillas' hometown could not be confirmed.
Police said Casillas was to be booked at the State Police Barracks in Middleborough for motor vehicle offenses, the outstanding warrants, and other charges related to his failure to stop for police.
