Arthur Tavares, 92, cranberry grower, WWII Army veteran
Arthur Tavares, 92, of Wareham, died February 16 in the Orchard Valley Assisted Living in Wilbraham. He was the husband of the late Alice (Miranda) Tavares and the son of the late Peter and Mary (Cardoza) Tavares.
He was born in Rochester and lived most of his life in Wareham.
Mr. Tavares was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Mr. Tavares worked as a cranberry grower in the area for many years before retiring.
Survivors include 2 sons, Dana Tavares of Monson and Kenneth A. Tavares of Mashpee; 4 daughters, Lori Jean Pina and Diane Pina both of New Bedford, Georgiana Lopes of Onset and Florence Monterio of E. Wareham; a brother, Manuel Tavares of Wareham; a sister, Marion Andrade of Middleboro; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
His funeral was held Tuesday in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
