Amelia A. (Lopes) Fortes, 88
Amelia A. (Lopes) Fortes, 88, of Wareham, died March 4 in Tobey Hospital. She was the widow of the late Nicholas F. Fortes and the daughter of the late John and Mary (Chambra) Lopes.
She was born in Wareham and lived there most of her life.
Mrs. Fortes worked as a domestic for many years before retiring.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. She was very spiritual. She enjoyed arts, crafts, cooking, and baking.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances A. Otey of Boston; a son, Nicholas F. Fortes, Jr. of CA; a sister, Minnie Gomes of Wareham; a brother, Frank Lopes of New Bedford; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. She was the mother of the late Jeanne M. Carrasquillo.
Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 8 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High Street, Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
