Gateway Jr. Vikings end season with big win

The Gateway Jr. Vikings hockey team ended its regular season on Friday, March 16, with an 8-2 win over Mansfield. The team is now heading to the playoffs.

Both teams garnered two goals in the first period, ending the period in a 2-2 tie.

The Jr. Vikings then scored five goals in the second period to take the lead and dominate the game.

Scoring for the Vikings were Nick Elicier with two goals, one assisted by Kyle Fidalgo and the other assisted by both Fidalgo and Stephen Toal.

Stephen Toal achieved a Hat Trick — scoring three goals with assists from Tyler Gallus and Brian Holmes. Fidalgo and Matt St.John each garnered one unassisted goal. Connor Kelly was the final goal-scorer with an assist from Toal.

Goalie Chase Cunningham played a solid game in the net.

The Jr. Vikings finished the regular season with 12 wins, 8 losses, and 3 ties.

Coach Howie Ladd and assistant Coach Bill Kelly said they are looking forward to their playoffs and expect to see the team in the finals.

The community is invited to support the Jr. Vikings in their playoff run, the first round of which will be held Sunday, March 25, at 5:10 p.m. at the Foxboro Sports Center, located at 10 East Belcher Road in Foxboro.
