Tigers cheerleaders place first in competition
The Wareham Tigers Pride cheerleading team won first place at the Winners Choice Championships in Uncasville, Connecticut on Saturday, March 11.
The team was also one of the three highest overall scorers in the competition, despite what Head Coach Sonja DeLucia called “struggles” during the cheerleaders’ performance.
“The athletes struggled with a few stunt falls,” DeLucia said. “That led them to not have their best performance. In cheerleading, if one person does not do their job, it affects the team as a whole.”
The Pride team is for more experienced cheerleaders up to age 18. In February, the Pride team and the Spirit team, for girls ages 12 and under, won third place in a competition in Ocean City, Maryland.
The Tigers Pride, Spirit and Empower teams will compete in the CHEERSPORT Boston Classic on Saturday, March 25.
“We are back in the gym focusing on the mistakes we made,” DeLucia said, “to ensure that CHEERSPORT in Boston is a great performance and one we are proud of.”
