David F. Barry, 86, H.P. Hood milkman, WWII Navy veteran

David F. Barry, 86, of Wareham, died May 5 at Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alice M. (Federici) Barry and the son of the late David and Olga (Crocker) Barry.

He was born in Wareham and lived there all of his life.

Mr. Barry was a Navy veteran of WWII serving during the invasion of the Island of Saipan. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mr. Barry worked for H.P. Hood and Sons in Hyannis as a milk deliveryman for more than 50 years before retiring.

Mr. Barry was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. He was a life member of the Cromesett Tribe Order of the Redmen, the Red Fox Cedar Club, Navy Seabees Veterans, Knights of Columbus, Wareham Lodge of Elks #1548, and Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Diana Sosnowski and her husband Tead of Wareham; a brother, Josh Rounds of Wareham; a sister-in-law, Bernice Federici of Wareham; 3 grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Sarah, Candice and Ashley Cabe; 2 great-grandchildren, Sienna and Jackson Cabe.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High Street. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
