Edward S. Holmes, 88, of Wareham, died March 27, 2010 at Tobey Hospital, Wareham. He was the widower of the late Mabel (Buckland) Holmes and the son of the late Charles and Theo (Murch) Holmes.

 

He was born in Bar Harbor, Maine and lived in Franklin for many years before moving to Wareham in 1986.

 

Mr. Holmes was a WWII Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received a Purple Heart.

 

He was a member and past commander of the Medway VFW Post 1526 and a member of the Montgomery Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Milford. Mr. Holmes was a former member of the Wareham Commission for the Handicapped. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Dayle Maltais, of Millville, and Holly G. Holmes, of Wareham; a son, Barry Holmes, of North Grafton; a brother, Lewis Hilton Holmes and his wife Eileen, of Foley, Alabama; five grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

 

His funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
