Updated: Missing person found in Wareham rest stop search
Multiple police helicopters circled Wareham the morning of Thursday, June 27 as the I-195 rest area between exits 35 and 39 swarmed with first responders searching for a missing person.
“The search area consisted of woods, beaches, and water ways,” according to Massachusetts State Police.
Emergency personnel blocked off the I-195 Wareham Boat Ramp in the course of their search. The I-195 Wareham Boat Ramp provides access to the Weweantic River.
“It looks like the missing person was located and the scene cleared shortly after 1 p.m.,” reported Massachusetts State Police.
Around 1:32 p.m. chatter over the Wareham Fire Department radio scanner indicated that first responders were “just getting out of the water.”
The identity of the formerly missing person is unknown at this time.
First responders on the scene included Wareham Police officers, Wareham fire fighters, Marion fire fighters and Massachusetts State Police. State Police helicopters, K9 units and marine units also responded, according to State Police.
Police and fire fighters at the rest stop declined to provide any comment on their activity.
As of 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, the Wareham Police Department declined to comment and referred questions to the Massachusetts State Police. The Wareham Fire Department also declined to give any comment.
