BOURNE — Two members of Wareham Boy Scout Troop 39, Braden Coryer and Jonathen Mello, were celebrated with a double Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Upper Cape Regional Technical School on Thursday, July 11.

The two represent the 49th and 50th scouts from the Warham troop to advance to the rank of Eagle since the troop’s inception in the 1960s.

“It was a big thing” for the 50th scout to get their wings, according to troop coordinator Kim Carman. “It means a lot to have that number.”

In special attendance during the ceremony was Frederick “Rick” Rasch III, the first scout from the troop to achieve the Eagle Scout rank.

Rasch, who achieved his rank in 1972, delivered the scout’s charge during the ceremony: Carman thought it would be a “nice touch” to have the first scout deliver the charge to the 50th, he said.

“Both boys are super kids,” Carman added. “We are very, very proud of them.”

Both Coryer and Mello participated in scouting since they were Cubs, Carman said. White Coryer started with Troop 39, Mello transferred from a Pocasset troup about a year-and-a-half ago, said Carman: Mello wanted to be with his friends and classmates in Troop 39.

Both boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through an Eagle Service Project completed at Upper Cape Tech, where they studied together in the engineering shop.

Coryer restored and improved the fitness trail which runs along the back of the school. According to Carman, his work included cutting back brush and formulating a couple new tracks to account for construction.

Mello did work restoring a gazebo and gardens in front of the school, replacing the entire deck of the gazebo. As part of the project, he made a time capsule to bury under the gazebo.

“These kids, they work very hard for it,” said Carman.

Coryer will continue his education at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and Mello will take classes at Cape Cod Community College.
