Leo C. McGowan, 82

Leo C. McGowan, 82, of Wareham, died Nov. 21. He was the husband of Lillian J. (Sammarco) McGowan, and the son of the late John H. and Sarah (Fitzgerald) McGowan.

He was born in Cambridge and lived in Medway for 43 years. He summered in Wareham for many years, until moving there permanently in 1998. He was a winter resident of Davenport, FL.

Mr. McGowan graduated from Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. McGowan was a telephone technician for MA Bell for many years before retiring in 1985.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, and a member of the American Legion Post 220 in Wareham and the Benjamin D. Cushing Post 2425 VFW in Marion. He was a talented artist and enjoyed painting.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lillian J. (Sammarco) McGowan; his children, Nicholas C. McGowan of Orlando, FL, Sharon A. Grant of Plainville, Kerry J. McGowan of Boston, Brian T. McGowan of San Francisco, CA, and Sean P. McGowan of Manhattan; a sister, Loretta Herman of Medford; 2 grandchildren, Shannon and Cameron Grant; many nephews and nieces, and an adopted son from India, Bijay Singh.

His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Nov. 28, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
