Water main flushing begins May 6
The Wareham Fire District Water Department will begin flushing district water mains on Monday, May 6. The flushing is expected to last through June 30.
The Water Department will be flushing mains every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The department cautions that it's not possible to predict how long flushing a given area will take.
The district is going to put up signs and use its reverse 911 system to alert residents about when workers will be flushing a particular area.
Customers may notice discoloration or cloudiness in their water, and are advised that this is a temporary effect of the flushing, and it will clear up. Customers should check the clarity of their water before drinking it.
The flushing is done to keep the pipes clean of sediment and bacteria. The Water Department will also be adding chlorine to the water during this process.
