‘Great local art by local people’: South Coast artists put on gallery
A variety of art is on display in the Wareham Free Library with beautiful scenes of nature with watercolor, pastels, photography, and so much more.
The artwork is a part of the Bourne-Wareham Art Association’s annual spring and summer Show where artists will have their work on display from now until June 28.
The event kicked off last Friday, June 6 during the opening reception at the library.
The Bourne-Wareham Art Association is a club made up of 30 to 35 local artists who showcase their art twice a year. Tim Foley, Bourne-Wareham Art Association Show Manager, said this gallery features 38 original pieces depicting landscapes in Wareham and beyond by 11 different artists.
Wareham residents can go visit the gallery for free and for each piece of art, there is a sign with the artist’s name, contact information, title, medium, and price.
20% of all sales support the Friends of the Wareham Free Library.
Foley said he always struggles with deciding what the best layout for the gallery will be.
“It all comes in, I don’t know what I’m going to get each show,” he says, “I start looking at it and it just amazes me how good the art really is.”
Foley added the show gives local artists a chance to get eyes on their work and some have even turned a profit.
“Quote about guy buying art”
Many of the works show scenes of Wareham, places on the Cape, or the Upper Cape region.
“People can go down and see a painting and say ‘I know right where this is.’” said Foley.
Foley, an artist himself, said he finds Wareham itself inspiring, because of “all the nature and natural things here and the beauty that we are surrounded by.”
With so many pieces to choose from, Foley said he doesn’t have a single favorite piece of art in the show this year, because he loves them all.
As for his own art, Foley has four pieces in the show this year, each displaying a different natural scene. He painted various places in Wareham and Onset, and even a scene of Provincetown.
