‘Puppy Doe’ passes away following emergency surgery
An abandoned puppy which attracted an outpouring of support from the Wareham community has passed away following an emergency lifesaving surgery.
The French Bulldog, nicknamed ‘Puppy Doe,’ was allegedly found in a box along a wooded walking trail near Decas School. She had with her identifying information, spare wet food and a note saying, ‘Please save her.’
The puppy was dropped off at the Wareham Fire Department and the Wareham Department of Natural Resources was called in to assist.
She was transported to a veterinary clinic to be checked out. While not initially in any distress, she required a life-saving surgery.
“Puppy Doe was already at a significantly higher risk due to her age, breed, and condition. Although she made it through the surgery, she very quickly declined and had to be humanely euthanized due to emergency circumstances,” wrote the Department of Natural Resources.
“We hope that everyone who showed interest in her adoption will find it in their hearts to adopt one of the hundreds of shelter pets that are patiently waiting for their forever home,” the Department added.
“Puppy Doe’s story caught the heart of so many, but there are many animals with similar stories that have not received the same attention. Please reach out to your local animal shelter to see what you can do to assist with the care of so many animals just like Puppy Doe,” it wrote.
