On the breezy shores of Onset, stories from the world’s most famous playwright are arriving this summer.
Shakespeare is taking center stage in Onset as Shakespeare Under the Stars returns to town this summer. A cast of characters took the stage at Onset’s Gazebo on Tuesday, July 28 for the second of three performances in Onset. Audience members watched the Shakespearean tales while sitting on the lawn.
"The Comedy of Errors," which is this summer’s selected show, tells the story of two sets of identical twins accidentally separated at birth. The separation triggers a chain of mistaken identities, confusion and comedic chaos.
According to Cape Cod Community College Performing Arts Professor Vana Trudeau, the program gives residents the opportunity to experience Shakespeare’s stories as they were originally seen “in the open air.”
This year’s comedy is the company’s sixth year performing free Shakespeare for the community.
The show is hosted by the Onset Bay Association. The final Shakespeare performance is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Lillian Gregerman Bandshell. Trudeau told attendees to cross their fingers that the venue, which has been under construction for months, will be ready for next week’s show.
