Dorothy E. Tracey, 77

Dorothy E. Tracey, 77, of Wareham, passed away peacefully on July 18 while receiving hospice care. Born and raised in Stoughton, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Joseph McGrahan.

She was predeceased by her brother, Daniel McGrahan, and her husband of 15 years, Charles Tracey.

Dorothy found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved animals, nature, and watching the seasons change. She especially enjoyed live music and celebrating the holidays. In her quieter moments, she could often be found crocheting or sewing.

Dorothy was also creative, capable, and hardworking. She took great pride in repairing, improving, and adding her own personal touch to each of the homes she lived in. She eventually settled into a cottage in Wareham, where she could enjoy the natural beauty and peaceful surroundings she loved.

Throughout her life, Dorothy held a variety of positions that reflected her versatility and strong work ethic. She worked as a bookkeeper for Casey Trucking and earned her commercial driver’s license, occasionally stepping in to drive a dump truck when needed. She later spent three summers working for the National Seashore at the visitor center and beach parking area. Before retiring, she worked for 10 years in document control and customer service at Tech-Etch in Plymouth.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Charlie Tracey; her daughter, Sharon Tracey; her brother, Joseph McGrahan; and Joseph’s close friend, Stephanie Cady.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Dorothy’s memory be honored through a donation to a hospice organization or a charity devoted to animals or nature. Those wishing to remember her in a more personal way might simply take a walk and listen to the birds and appreciate the joy of nature  that brought her peace.
