Derek Sullivan discusses grants, Onset Bandshell and Circuit programs

Derek Sullivan mentioned two grants for the town of Wareham, one known and one that is yet to be announced. During his update during the Tuesday, July 21 Select Board meeting, he also mentioned the updates on the Onset Bandshell and the Circuit program.

MassDOT awarded municipal maintenance $250,000 for a new front end loader. This machine was crucial during the blizzard in February. 

The town is hoping to keep the old front loader as well, so they have access to multiple front loader machines. 

The machine will cost $300,000. They have yet to figure out how they will be funding the remaining $50,000. Sullivan mentioned that this might be debated during Fall Town Meeting. 

He also stated there are some grants that the town is currently verifying, but that there will be a “big announcement” once verified.

The Onset Bandshell is being worked on and funded by the town, not by the Onset Bay Association. The majority of the sod was planted on Monday, July 22. Sullivan will be checking on the status of the railings being fabricated. 

He added that he is hoping it will be fully planted by August 1, if not earlier. 

Sullivan ended his update by stating that the Circuit program is working. 

“I did see an O.B. member, I think, driving one of them around,” said Sullivan, “She seemed happy as a client.”
