Bourne-Wareham Art Association Show features works in acrylics, oils and more
When it comes to art, Tim Foley has more on his mind than color, light and composition.
“People hate to throw away old frames,” said Foley. “But they don’t know what to do with them.”
Foley's solution is to rehabilitate those old frames then craft a piece, usually in acrylic, specifically for his finds.
“I love to bring them back to life,” said Foley, a Wareham resident for the past six years. “They’re a work of art unto themselves.”
On Saturday, July 14, Foley’s work, along with paintings, wood carvings and crafts from 12 others, was for sale at the Bourne-Wareham Art Association’s 54th Annual Summer Show & Sale.
Held in the Old Methodist Meetinghouse on Main Street, the show serves as a fundraiser for the association’s scholarship fund. Foley, who has been painting for the past three years, served as the show manager. His work featured landscapes from Cape Cod and Onset, crafted with an eye for frames he rescued from yard sales and consignment shops.
By bargain hunting, Foley said he’s also able to keep costs down for buyers.
“Custom frames are very expensive,” he said. “This is a labor of love.”
Joining Foley at the art show was acrylic and watercolor artist Charlene Mackiewicz.
A Pinehurst Beach summer resident, she is a member of the neighborhood’s own art association. On display at the show were several of her works featuring landscapes from Westport, Maine, Marion, Wareham and other locations. She paints outdoors (en plein air) and also from photographs.
“I love capturing people in their environment,” she said.
Mackiewicz and Foley are two of about 60 members in the Bourne-Wareham Art Association. The group meets once a month from September to June in BB’s Restaurant on Cranberry Highway in West Wareham.
